This quote is often misattributed to Winston Churchill. However, it’s from a 1981 book by Liane Cordes, titled “The Reflecting Pond: Meditations for Self-Discovery”. It’s about how to reach your potential.
Sometimes the person we are today and the person we are capable of becoming (i.e. our potential) are one and the same. But more often, they are almost the same or quite different.
As this quote reminds us, what brings us closer to our potential isn’t necessarily strength and intelligence. The key to unlocking our potential is continuous effort.
At the end of the day, you can have all the strength and intelligence in the world. However, you still won’t reach your potential if there’s no willingness to do so and to keep trying, even when things get tough.
