Consider your state of mind when you’re feeling stressed, anxious, or confused. Your focus suddenly becomes more limited to the one or several things causing that particular emotion. Everything else seems to disappear. However, this quote from a Beatles song by George Harrison, is about being able to notice things outside of yourself. This is especially important during moments of distress.
It’s when our focus is entirely on our concerns and not so much on the world around us that we need to make a more concerted effort to see beyond ourselves. From a beautiful sunset to the birds singing, or situations worse than our own. Somehow, this has a way of putting our problems into perspective. It wouldn’t take them away. But the greater our perspective on the bigger picture, the greater our peace of mind.
