The word guilt is associated with the past. We feel guilty about things that have already happened. Meanwhile, anxiety is associated with the future. We feel anxious about what is to come. It’s important to note that these two emotions pull us in two different directions: the past and the future, which leaves the present lost in the equation.

This anonymous quote reminds us that guilt and anxiety can neither change the past nor future. However, it’s also important to note that these emotions can actually be used to benefit the present. We can channel guilt and misplaced anxiety toward doing things differently now.
