“The Silent Sufferer” is a poem that speaks to those who are suffering in silence as well as to moments in life when we ourselves are in that situation.
The Silent Sufferer
Suffering in pain, you refrain,
Hesitating to complain,
Fearing it will elicit disdain,
Fearing they’ll reply “Not again” or “Are you sane?”.
But with others, you must traverse life’s rugged terrain,
Avoiding those who only see your pain as small as grain,
And seeking those who don’t mind the sound of rain,
When you alone, your tears, you cannot contain.
